Join to learn more about resources in treating patients living with disabilities who are seeking treatment for substance use disorder! Featuring special guest speakers from the HHS Office of Civil Rights. Hosted by: Maryland Addiction Consultation Service (MACS)
Audience: Primary Care Physicians, Advance Practice Registered Nurses, Physician Assistants, other members of the healthcare team
Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss how to assess a program’s general civil rights and health information privacy compliance obligations with respect to the laws that Office of Civil Rights enforces, which includes compliance with OCR’s new final rules (Section 1557; Section 504; HIPAA Privacy Rule to Support Reproductive Health Care Privacy)
2. Illustrate awareness of OCR’s enforcement process, including its complaint investigation process
3. Recognize how to ensure that they are providing accommodations, effective communication, and language access resources to their patients living with substance use disorder as required by the laws that OCR enforces
4. Summarize how to leverage OCR as a resource for staff training and technical assistance as needed

MAT and MATE Acts:
On December 29, 2022, President Biden signed the fiscal year 2023 omnibus, passing the Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment (MAT) and Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Acts. These bills were passed to expand access to buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid use disorder, and normalize and enhance substance use care across healthcare settings.
